UPDATE – (14 July) – Click Here for More on this Story

Ok, if you’re not a huge Harry Potter fan, let me quickly get you up to speed. There was lots of Harry Potter books, they were made into movies, you might have heard of them. THEN there was this other book, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, which is being made into a play, but NOT a movie according to JK Rowling.

BUT THEN, In the words of Homer Simpson, wellity wellity wellity.

Warner Brothers have just applied for a Trademark for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child in the UK.

Happy Potter Trademark Application 1
There may be absolutely nothing in this at all of course…….as I said, JK Rowling has already stated that Harry Potter and the cursed child is NOT going to be a movie:

As against that, WHY would Warner Brothers (who last I checked had nothing to do with plays) apply to register the trademark? Apart from anything else, they can’t really apply for a trademark for something they have no rights in, and expect notoriously brand protective JK Rowling to do nothing. Therefore we can safely assume the application has been made with her consent, and on some understanding. It may just be that Warner have the options to all her future works, or this work in particular, perhaps?

Harry Potter Trademark Application 2

Somewhat oddly, JK herself does already have lots of trademarks for ‘The Cursed Child’:
